Help Find Dogfighting Victims A Loving Home

I, like many doglovers out there, am horrified by dogfighting. "Pit bulls" have been used in illegal dogfighting in alarming numbers over the last 5 years. Pit bull is not a technical breed. It's a mix or American Pit Bull Terrier, among other possibilities. I own two Pit mixes who are the sweetest dogs I have ever met. I strongly advocate against dogfighting.

Dogfighting is prevalent in Florida. Innocent dogs (from Pit bulls to smaller and more submissive varied breeds) are torn away from loving homes or raised to fight each other as they're cheered on from a ring of humans. Pit bulls are naturally loyal creatures who wish to serve their human. Dogfighting preys on this natural instinct. These dogs are taught that to please their humans, they must destroy the other dog (or be destroyed). They are starved, beaten, burned and kept in horrible cages with no sanitation or cover. This horrible sport has given a dog a horrible reputation.

But while most dogs involved in this sport must be euthanized due to aggression (they have had anger and violence tortured into them), there are those that survive. Victims of dogfighting are broken, beaten and terrified of the real world. These dogs do not understand what a loving hug from a human being means - they know only pain at the hands of humans. Many shelters around the country rescue and rehabilitate these dogs in order to find them the loving homes they deserve.

Orange County Animal Services houses such dogs. Bambi is a dogfighting survivor from a horrible situation where children raised, tortured and fought dogs. (Article: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-kids-dog-fighting-20100114,0,4441622.story) Here is Bambi's picture: http://twitpic.com/zrqdm. I have opened this pledge page in order to raise money to pay for her adoption fee so that someone will take her into their loving home and for supplies needed at the shelter. Animal Services does not have the budget to provide beds for every animal. However, Kuranda Dog Beds offers a discounted price to those individuals who wish to donate a bed to the facility. Know that these dogs NEED beds to sleep on and Kuranda beds are not only comfortable but durable. This is a very low, discounted price. The funds collected here will go toward donating beds to Orange County Animal Services and adoption fees for their dogs involved in dog fighting. Please spread the word and you could save another dog's life. Remember: Orange County Animal Services is not a no-kill shelter. Dogs do not have very long at their facility because there is simply no room for everyone. If anything, help me make their last days on Earth as comfortable as possible.

Thank you for all of your contributions.
